new eyes
Hi All - what an amazing site! It's late now and I have just registered but I will be back tomorrow to look around some more.
I am 44 years old, married, mother of 3 beautiful girls. I have always had houseplants and enjoyed the ambiance they added to our home. I never gave orchids a second thought however, until shortly after I was diagnosed with breast cancer last Febuary.........which amongst other things, caused me to look at the world with brand new eyes. The next time I saw an orchid - I believe it was at the local grocery store - I stopped and looked at the sheer simple beauty of it, and it was love at first site! I now own two, and am ready to absorb everything I can about them, and can see myself becoming a serious hobbyist. I welcome all thoughts and ramblings!
Peace and blessings - Sunny

Welcome Sunny to THE BOARD!
Is the BC British Columbia???
Am glad you discovered orchids as a cool plant to grow. Tho the impetus towards that discovery is not what I would call the greatest in the world but even in the midst of a hurricane their is that eye of calmness!
Do tell us more about what orchids you have and what kind do you want to grow.
Also there is a Chat on this forum that is active around 8PM EST or 5PM PST-it is a good way of meeting the other orchid fans that frequent this forum!!

Hi Sunny, I am glad to see you here, orchids and plants in general have a great healing influence on us. I have known a few people who have fought and won breast cancer, my mother included. Blessings on your speedy recovery.

Wow! Thank you terrestrial man, and yes, the BC refers to British Columbia, my home. And how true it is about there being a calmness in the eye of the storm.
As for what kind of orchids I would like to grow, I have no idea as of yet - lol - I don't know the different varieties yet.
Is sending a quick reply the only way to reply to a posting?
