Hello all from N.C.
Hello to all from N.C. I just joined and like to read the post.I have about 15 years growing orchids of all types.I had some 200 assorted orchids when a fire destroyed all but one Dendrobium. The fire happened when I was in the hospital undergoing Kemotherapy so I was not at home. The one Dendrobium that survived was in the house as it was blooming at the time.I am now begining to think it is going to die too and wonder which one of us will be the first. My hair has fallen out and it has lost its leaves. I have no job now due to my health and wish to locate some reasonable priced orchids then I can spend time careing for them instear than sitting around worrying.God bless all of you out there ggrowing orchids and posting on here as there are some of us who do enjoy reading your post.

Hello Robert and Welcome to THE BOARD!
I definitely hope that you will go from
to as you have the time to read more in between your different treatments!
What is the chemo treating Robert?
I can understand (just a little) as my bro underwent chemo and radiation for his cancer. A real drag but it really helps to focus on those things that will make you smile and even dance
and dance about!!!
There are alot of nice orchid growers in your neck of the woods. If you have the time and can get to them once the winter is over go out and visit and chat. It is alot of fun and maybe you can find some great deals on something cool. What kind of orchids do you like besides dendrobiums?

Hello Terrestrial_man,
I appreciate dht hello from you. This radiation is rough and very depressing As far as what other types of orchids I like Phaleanopsis , Neofinetia's, Angraceium's,Brassovola Nodosa, Cattelaya's and Oncidiums.Other than them about any orchid besause to me it is just so wonderful to watch something so beautiful grow.I also had Plumeria's started in the greenhouseand several bonsai's and Japanese maple trees.
I treated and thought of them all as my childern since I have none of my own.It just seems that nothing good has come to me in the past year.I can only hope that after the chemo things get better.I just cant stand the fact that I have had to sell so many things to paythe bills since there is no insurance but I hope and pray it gets better. Thanks for your kind words and God Bless.

best of luck with your health. $18 will get you this orchid from Oak Hill Gardens, Vandofinettia Blaupunkt, which will make your whole house smell like jasmine. If you can grow neo's, you can grow this. And if I can make it grow and rebloom in my apartment, then it must be at least relatively easy to grow.
the photo is from last year's blooming, which had more flowers but the colors were washed out. This year the lip is much brighter purple. I'll take a picture once all the flowers are open.

Welcome to the Orchid Board, glad you could find your way here. Im sorry to hear about your health and about your collection. There are many miniatures out there that are cheap and bloom very nicely. Let us know if you like those.

Hello Robert, fellow North Carolinian. PM me when you get a chance. I hate to hear of your illness and hope for you speedy recovery. I find so much comfort in my plants and know how it is to lose them also.

Hi Robert and welcome to Orchidboard
You've found a wonderful place to relax...sit back and read our members' posts and articles. All the other stuff will be off your mind for quite some time if you read it all
Our members usually post a notice regarding any sales or special offers that we hear of...keep your eyes open for one of them. Vendors sometimes have a Free Shipping promotion and that's always the best scenario
Our good thoughts are with you
