Hello from Delaware
Hi!
My name is Brad and I'm from the Wilmington, Delaware area...about 30 miles south of Philadelphia for those of you that thought Delaware was a city in some state.
After messing around with perennials, vegetables, bulbs and such, I got the orchid bug about 5 years ago and, in a story many people get a kick out of, joined my local society thinking it might be a good way to meet women. The only problem with that being I was about 36 at the time and the youngest person in the room by a wide margin. Oh well. I'm still single but have since added about 175 "children" to occupy my time.
I grow predominately indoors under lights with a few in window sills and last summer began putting some outdoors for some fresh air and sunshine. I've been reluctant to do it because of pests and critters.
Like most newbies, I have a varied collection and have killed quite a few in the process of learning what thrives on periods of neglect and periods of overwatering, aggressive experimentation and the like.
I graviate towards the more abnormal, unique plants because hey...I'm abnormal and unique. Yes, I have the mainstream phals, a few catts, paphs and that damned dendrobium kingianum we all have that grows nothing but keiki's but, I prefer the bulbos, and stuff with weird names like neobethamia, stenoglottis, macroclinium, eria, restrepia etc.
Anyway, I'm here to learn and discuss techniques and experiments. I'm in a champagne hobby on an imported beer budget so always willing to here how people utilize their creativity in budget growing these plants we love.

Hey Brad...nice to meet you. Great intro
Welcome to Orchidboard
Sounds like you have a neat collection...I look forward to seeing some pics
I have a Neobethamia gracilis that was given to me as a keiki last year. It had a tiny little "root" growing about 3/4 of the way up the plant and now that "root" is a keiki and there's another growth coming out from the base! I was kind of worried about growing this because 2 people whose expertise I trust told me they've killed them, more than once!!! It didn't do much when I had it in full sun but then I moved it under a much larger plant whose leaves give it a more dappled sun effect and it took off!!! I probably have quite some time before I see any blooms but I'm still excited by it...it lives!!!
We have a great photo gallery here and a chat room where a number of us meet each night, starting around 8pm est. Stop in sometime

Hi Brad, welcome to the Orchid Board!!! Glad you found this orchid society too! So you have a tooth for the wierd. What, no bulbos? Hehehe.
So, if I join an orchid society, I'll be the youngling there one last fling as a youngling for me.
Heck maybe in 50 years not only will I be one of the many seniors in the group, but also one of the long time members.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I have some of the mainstream stuff like phals/paphs/catts but I prefer and predominately have the more oddball stuff like the bulbos.
Yes, I voted. I was actually going to contribute something but time slipped away from me. Imagine that.

oops, I missed the part where you say you have Bulbos. I must be practicing selective reading again.
I can't wait to hear more about your Bulbos!
