Hello from Alberta, Canada!
Hi guys,
I just joined this forum. Some of you may have met me on other forums. I am a student and young orchid hobbyist. Orchids have been around me since I was about 10 years old (I can't remember its been too long). I remember reading all those orchid growers books when I was young and growing them with my mom. I sort of got sucked in.
I just recently became more serious about orchid growing as soon as I had more freedom. I have bought too many orchids now for my windowsill so I grow my collection underlights, while my mom cares for the original windowsill phals and catts from my childhood. I am most fasinated by the slipper orchids and my collection is mainly composed of them, but I still have strong interests with phals and catts, and I am willing to try new genera too. I hope to soak up more knowledge about this most diverse genus of the angiospermae, and meet new hobbyists, as well as contribute my thoughts to this forum.
-Fren (what an odd name my dad gave me)

Hi Fren!
I'm new to this board, but I wanted to say hello! I must say, you are in a much colder area of the world than I! I would love to see how you have your growing area set up! I am toying with the idea that I need to migrate from the windowsill to a growing area of some kind! It'd be cool to see how you have yours set up!
Take care and have fun on this wonderful site!

Welcome. I think I can help you with cameras and photos as that is my retirement business. As an entry-level digital camera I would suggest Steves Digicams - Nikon D40 SLR User Review I am partial to Nikon glass and this little guy seems to have a lot to offer (as a comparrision I own 2 Nikon D1xs, a D100 and a D200 bodies) I own about $20,000 worth of equipment right now. I recommend this camera because it is low-end (for what it offers) but will allow you to use the fabulous 60mm micro lens that Nikon offers as well as a tripod. OK, maybe I'll do a front page article on equipment
