Hello Everyone!! I'm new and in need of some help Female
Question Hello Everyone!! I'm new and in need of some help

Hi my name is Angela. I'm from Upper Michigan. About 5 months ago I bought my first orchid. Just recently the flowers on one spike fell off and new buds are forming.. Today I was looking at the medium and I saw tiny like bugs crawling around!! I'm not really sure what to do; should I re-pot it or wait. I know there is stuff I put in it to kill them. But it's still cold up here and I live in a small apartment. Any help would be great.

Hi;
I'm assuming the orchid is a Phalaenopsis(moth orchid)and the bugs are sow bugs (pill bugs).
If so: keep tending to your orchid as usual(bright, but not full sun ,moist but not waterlogged,and good air circulation/humidity.
As far as the sowbugs go:they themselves do no harm,but are an indication that the medium is breaking down.Plan on repotting in the near future.
If the insects bother you,you can fill a pail/sink with tepid water and submerge the plant for 1/2hour,and collect all the escaping insects.
Good luck.

I'm not sure what kind of bug it was. It was a lot smaller then a pill bug but they could have been babies.. They where almost translucent. But I did what you said and I don't see them anymore. Thanks again
