new member in Ireland - Orchid Board

Hiya

New member from Ireland, I own a retail flower shop, we do sell some orchids, mostly phalaenopsis and cymbidium. I enjoy them, but the stock rotates quickly so there is not much care involved. Sometimes plants arrive damaged and I enjoy caring for them and encouraging them to re-flower for sale. I also enjoy educating people how to look after their orchids and how excited they get when they succeed.

However, I've joined this board as I have an interest in creating an orchidarium/terrarium/vivarium or rather a hybrid of the three. I would like to try growing some miniature orchids along with some ferns and mosses/lichens, and maybe incorporate some small reptiles. If anyone can point me to some good resources, particularly European ones, I would appreciate it. I am also looking for recommendations for some good books on miniature orchids.

I look forward to learning from all the knowledgable people here.

Welcome to the best Orchid Board! I am sure you will receive lots of comments as there has been a lot of discussion under the section of this board on Terrariums. There is also a sister/brother board called Vivarium Forum that is small but has a lot of info you might find handy. As to books on miniatures, my favorite is Miniature Orchids by Rebecca Tyson Northern. It's published by Prentice Hall. Check Amazon.com: Miniature orchids: Books: Rebecca Tyson Northen

Welcome to the Orchid Board Ion. You won't find any trouble getting some advice on nursing your orchids back to health. And there are plenty of fellow terrarium/vivarium enthusiats here. We tend to mix the two hobbies alot
