Default Hello, I know nothing about orchids...

...but I'm determined to learn!

I have a couple of phalaenopsis that are doing well, a couple of cattleyas that are doing reasonably well, but I'm struggling with a dendrobium and an odontoglossum. I will be reading a lot and probably posting some really silly questions.

Also I just purchased a Beallara Marfitch "Howard's Dream" for a friend and I'm just hoping to keep it alive until I can get it to her. She's wonderful with orchids. It's not blooming right now but I bet it will the moment she touches it.

Hi, welcome to the Orchid Board. I'm sure you will be able to get help with those pesky dendrobiums and the odontoglossum.

Hi manos and welcome to Orchidboard

Sounds like you're doing pretty good so far
Beallara Marfitch "Howard's Dream" always catches my eye...I must get one of them!

Ask all the questions you want and don't feel that they're silly...we all started out knowing little or nothing at all and have somehow gotten through it!

We've got some very helpful people her at OB and our goal is to help each other in our quest to master the orchid kingdom...well, that's MY quest anyway

Whare are you located? We have a Gallery for photos and a chat room that usually starts filling up around 8pm est...hope to see you around the board

Stop by chat, it's a great way to meet some of your new friends

Toronto, ON. I forgot to do a profile, but I'll update it tomorrow. I live in an overheated apartment (we can't control the heat) with only east-facing windows so I guess I have my work cut out for me!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the Board! Don't worry about your success with Dendrobiums because that's about the same success rate for many of us.

Aboard manos, it's great your here on the OB where a wealth of information awaits. As others here have said, no question is to silly, just the one you don't ask. We all have started like you, knowing nada and have learned as we go along, speaking for myself of course

Warm home warm heat, but than again warm home in the cold is a good thing An east window works well. When you said about your uncontrolable heat, suggestively I would open a window ever so, maybe an inch and see if this will equalize the temp. If you unable to do so, misting misting misting would be your best bet. Many from the OB grow indoors, many grow viv, many grow in big big did I say big greenhouses so just about anyone can help with your conditions. If you have some 's to share please help yourself to the OB's personal member gallery.

It's great to have you here...
