Hello everyone

I just wanted to write a quick note saying hello, and I will be wandering around the boards collecting whatever information I can I am a complete newbie to the whole "greenthumb" thing. I build high-rise buildings for a living and last year ( when I started to come down with my "greenthumb" ) built an addition onto my house to be able to take care of plants year round ( Winters are cold up here! )

Anyhoo....I'm a 31 year old male with 2 kids, and a wonderful wife who constantly tells me I should have been born a woman because I love flowers and the finer things in life....but as I tell her ... once you pee standing up, you can never go back!

Hi cb,

Thanks for the reply Yes I am growing orchids, at the moment about 40 of them. I am also trying to do things like grow strawberries inside under lights, etc etc. I have a few pictures of the orchids I have in bloom right at the moment and will post them in a few minutes, I just have to crop them down in photoshop

Thankfully for me, my wife is a photographer and has a camera that is worth more than my life! .... believe it or not how I got into orchids is probably a bit .... wierd to say the least.

I got into orchids because of my lawn. As in grass. And not the kind that gets you 25 to life, but rather the bright green blades kids trample over and drive me mental. About 2 years ago, for some odd reason I started getting really anal about my lawn. I was spending hours and hours a week taking care of it, and over some time, people would stop as they were walking by the house to ask me lawn questions. Shortly after I was being asked to go to friends houses and repair their lawns. Once I mastered the "lawn's" I started looking into things like plants and fruits/veggies ... from there onto orchids .... to make a long story short ... I went from being the guy who yells at kids to get off the lawn to building a 750 sq ft addition onto the back of my house to grow things indoors

Welcome Krim,

Would love to see a pic of your additions if/when you have a minute. I'm working towards something additional for our plants as well, but the sunroom I have in mind is a bit pricy right now (ie....100k). Yikes. Your plants look great, word of caution though, 2 turns into 4 and 40 turns into 200 really quickly. There are far worse addictions to have the way I look at it and as I always tell my husband.

Hi Krimzon , good to see someone on orchidboard that is practically a neighbor , about 45 minutes away . You know they are right , 2 turns into 4 and 40 turns into 200 . It happens pretty fast , when the bug bites you . I am reaching 86 plants now . Have fun and hope you learn lots .
