Default hello from malaysia!

everyone!

i'm natasha from malaysia! i just started collecting orchids about a year ago. well, actually it was an accident. i was browsing around at a local nursery, looking at new orchid plants. i didn't have any before, except for one local species at my parents' home collected from a rambutan tree at my late grandpa's house. actually it was my dad that take care of that orchid - i just collect it. anyway, the nursery workers have been persuading me to buy some orchids for quite some time and that day they succeeded. i bought 6 plants - 3 small plants and 3 medium sized pots for starters. since that day, i have been looking around to add to my collection. now i have about 150+ seedling & plants and kill somewhere about 10.

my love for orchids actually started about 7 years ago. during my semester break at uni, i volunteered for World Orchid Conference 2002. So during my off duty time, my new friends and me will spend our time looking at all the pretty exhibits. we were in cloud nine! esp the girls. but, i didn't buy any since i was still a pennyless student. and then, was too scared too try

that's all for such a lengthy intro. good day to you all!

love, natasha

My wife is from Malaysia (Miri), and remembers her step-mother keeping lots of orchids hung up near a short cliff face along thier back yard. Borneo is such a great place for it too, with warm/cool temps, and high humidity!

Welcome to Orchid Board Natasha.

This is a great place to learn all about how to care for them and we're all really friendly so don't be worried to ask anything.

thank you Turtle, Zoi2, RosieC & bellini girl

when i was young, i couldn't understand what the fuss about orchids. my maternal uncle has a collection, some neighbours and then some relatives too. the reason is easy, there are lots of mosquitoes at their orchid house. i fell in love with the flower during my volunteering stint at the WOC.

dear turtle, i went to miri a couple of years ago. nice place. borneo does have many exotic orchids (in books) but i don't even see one during my stay! but, i understand it is one of the most expensive place to live in m'sia as there are plenty of oil and gas people over there.

dear bellini girl, i also love taking pics. i have a digital camera and also my camera phone. sure will post some of my orchids pics. i take pics so that i know what i have since many nurseries don't label what orchid it is. i believe most of my collection are hybrids, which make it harder to tell. i have plenty of vanda & dendrobiums. now try to get more variety to it.
