Default Turtle in Texas

Allow myself to indtroduce...myself.
I live in Arlington, TX, USA with my wife and daughter. My interest in orchids is as young as my experience with them. I tend to lurk on forums, reading past threds for information, and ocassionally pasting up a topic or comment.

My wife and I are both working professionals. Our daughter is almost 1.5 years old.

I'm planning to make a couple of terrariums. I used to keep some freshwater fish, and for months I have had two empty tanks in my living room collecting dust and dirty looks from my wife. One is a nice 35gal hexagon tank, and I thought it might make a nice display terrarium for an blooming orchid. The other is a 48gal tall display tank that I will keep in my office for a wider variety of plants. (Terrariums are also ideal because we have a couple of cats that love to chew on unattended foliage.)

I'll start a thread in another topic regarding my plans for the tanks. Thanks to the admins for a great site, and I look forward to sharing with you all.

Welcome to the OB Turtle. You'll find a lot of information here on terrariums, but what is this: a 35 gal tank and you only want ONE orchid??

Ok well lets just say I'm better of just STARTING with one. If it happens to magically attract some buddies, who am I to turn them away, huh?

Welcome to Orchid Board, Turtle.

I don't think you'll stick to just orchid in your terarium for long, you won't be able to turn them away I'm sure.

Hi Turtle

Welcome to Orchidboard!

The word "one" always gets a little giggle around here...we don't do anything in just "ones"!

Can't wait to see what you do with the tanks.
Do you have any orchids yet?

No, none yet. I'm going to hunt around this weekend and see if I can turn some up at a reasonable cost. Either that or I'll order up some young ones.

Being the veterans you are, any suggestions on types of places to look for good finds?
