thanks alot! i'm so glad it hasn't died!

you won't believe what happened this morning though.... I don't know if it's a tradition everywhere, but the 1st of April is like the national prank/joke day in Estonia. so today the joke was on me:
I promised my 'chid that i'd water and feed it on thursday, even though there are wrinkles on the bulb already... i'm just more frightened of over- than underwatering (and yes, i do talk to it sometimes )
guess she didn't quite like that idea - when I woke up, the ceiling was leaking above the orchid, straight into the pot!!!
I now believe that it has mental powers beyond my humble understanding (hope she didn't hear me, you never know...)

I think you may be right about your orchid having mental powers! That is so funny! Well apart from your ceiling leaking. And yes, April 1st is considered April Fools Day here so people love to pull pranks.

I thought you were just kidding about buying orchids being addictive!!! and here I am - a brand new addict. this feels like an AA meeting ... I just went to the store to get some food (honestly!) and I'm back home with a new phal.... i don't know what happened my first one hasn't been here for even a month... with this rate, i'll be looking for a place to live soon, as I shall be kicked out

well, here's my new baby
it appears to be Phalaenopsis Dragon's Gold (as far as I've searched the net). it was among 40 different phal's, all pushed against eachother on a shelf, waiting for impulse buyers :P the people-that-clean-and-arrange-stuff-between-the-isles (sreally don't know how to say that) thought I was a complete nutcase, when I asked to see the roots! there was a discount (cost about 12$) so I fell for it.

There's a bundle of roots (too many? some are growing out from the holes, needs repotting?), seem healthy to my untrained eye, atleast 10 more buds and no mold (which was common amongst the others in the shop). I'll keep it away from Nelly, just in case there's something it has and I can't see.... and I'll post some pictures too, if you can help me in any way, I'd be very grateful!

P.S. I think I'm going to have a love-hate relationship with this site ..

HOLY SMOKES THOSE ROOTS!!! From the looks of it, you may need to re-pot that baby soon. She is busting out!
I can only find orchids with no roots around here!
I know what you mean about the person thinking you are crazy for asking to see the roots. I almost un-potted a plant in front of the clerk at the flower counter. I don't care! I want to know what I'm getting into.
If you have come here for help for your addiction, the only help you are going to get is help picking more to buy! I love it here. I have learned so much and learning more all the time.

I saw that your ceiling was leaking. Sorry to hear that, I'm going to have to agree that your orchid was demanding water. hehehe It looks fantastic!

Good Luck with your newest addition and welcome to the wonderful, crazy world of orchids! It's amazing and bank breaking!

Hi! I am new to the Orchidboard too. Lots of good info. I can relate to the wonderful addiction that orchids are and wonder if I will be moving out soon too (hubby). But then the guy goes and buys me an orchid for valentine's day?!? I think that the mystic of orchids is starting to get to him...........(HA HA!).

Anyways, have fun and enjoy your new hobby.

Paula
