Just came aboard here as a newbie to growing orchids and adore them but will need a lot of help.

Just wanted to say
I got a beautiful Cybidium Orchid for valentines day from my husband ,but took it back at the weekend as had noticed 1 week ago all the blooms were droping off and it was light even though I ad been watering it.

Onfurther infestigation it was in a 4inch pot outgrowing the pot an dplanted in a tall 12" terracotta plastic slim pot.

they were not keen to replace but di devenually .

Shall post a before and after photo.

I bought clay orchid pelets and the guy in th enursery said for me to put th epellots on a saucer and pot orchid ontop of saucer .

As I am anewbie is this what I should do?

I dont want to loose this one.

Hi Scotkat...welcome to Orchidboard!

Cyms like to get a great deal of light...as much as they can take without burning the leaves. Mine also like lots of water. I've found that the key in blooming them is to make sure they get a large temperature drop between the daytime and nighttime temps.

Is this your first orchid or do you have others? We'd love to hear more...and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures

If you need help with anything, let us know

Hi Scotkat!

Welcome aboard! I'm relatively new here too, but I can tell that you've come to the right place. I've found the people here to be very friendly and knowledgable, and I'm sure you will find the answers to all your questions. It's always nice to have a new orchid lover in the world.
Good luck with your cym!

Hi Scotkat! Welcome to Orchid Board
Thus far I haven't been to successful at growing cyms, so you don't want any advice from me! Really, I just left mine outside on a night they should have come in... now they are punishing me.

Anyhow, hope you enjoy the place. There are plenty of successful cym grower here who can give you tips.

We had a couple of really nice days where the temps have been up to 50F degrees. Today it's back to reality with temps hovering about 30F degrees and it's spitting snow again. This week it's suppose to be cold. Bah...I'm ready for warmer weather and new "chids" coming in the mail!

This is the original orchid and blossom only lasted two weeks then they dropped off and stem went yellow.

With the above photo you can see that I thought this was one pot ,but there is a smaller pot with orchid planted and it was not taking any water.

Here is replacement orchid I got yesterday and as you can see full of buds.

But my ? is what do I do with the clay pellets I bought.
