Thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself even though I've already been posting.

I've been fascinated with growing orchids for years, but all I seemed to do was kill them. The first ones I drowned (I worried that in my dry climate, they wouldn't get enough water) Once I realized I didn't need to keep them submerged, I wasn't able to provide enough light. I thought that I'd never be able to grow orchids.

I ended up getting a new job, and with the new job came a new office with a south-facing window covered with a transparent blind. I got fantastic light, and thought I'd try again. I got a couple of orchids from one of the big-box stores thinking that if I killed these, I wouldn't be out a lot of cash. Imagine my surprise when I didn't kill them immediately.

Since I didn't kill my orchids, I wanted to join an online community to learn more about my new babies. Glad I found this one!

Welcome to orchid board Penguin!

Growing orchids really isn't that hard, it's just knowing what the requirements are for the orchid(s) you have are. One you've got that, you're good! It sounds like you are already figuring things out on your own, so good job. There is a ton of information here, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome, welcome, Penguin!! We already had a bit of conversation in the thread about nobile Den nubbins, but wanted to wish you a welcome too. The OB is a fantastic place for learning, sharing experiences and culture information, and is a whole lot of fun. Great folks here.

Do you mind my asking about the username?? Just curious. I have a real thing for penguins (see avatar.)

Yvan, I've had a thing for penguins for years. I also live about 3 blocks from Route 66, so that usually comes into the user name too. I like penguins so much that I have a flask of Odontiodia Lovely Penguin ‘Fides’ that is ready for unflasking.

Also, Yvan's avatar caught my eye and I knew that this would be the place for me!
