New to the forum! - Orchid Board

Hello everyone!

I have been keeping orchids alive for almost 2 years now, and have recently gotten into the "orchidarium" craze. I live in northern California so the temperatures here can get a little to low for my windowsill plants, so I figured I'd get a tank and that would keep them warmer as well as increase humidity. For the past few days I have been researching this terrarium environment and I have 2 fish tanks in a setup stage to see what I can do to improve the environment of my plants. I am hoping to get a few more species this weekend since the anual orchid show and sale is coming to town

I plan to build a realistic hi tech orchidarium in the future, since I have access to a woodshop and I would love to see the plants at their best! I am eager to learn more about terrarium growing and encourage input from your community, Happy growing!

Welcome aboard, hacksaw. Your project sounds fun. I don't do terrariums my self, but a lot of people here do. Check out the forums, and by all means, post some pics when you can. Have fun,

I'm in the sonoma county area, healdsburg specifically. I have been busy with the large tank I am building, here is a few pics of the updates.

I cant wait to get more miniature species! They are my favorites by far because i can fit so many into a small niche!

Great pictures. You have a nice collection. I also want to get into some minis eventually, and I've been keeping my eye open for people getting rid of aquariums/fish tanks etc.

I was lucky enough to get tanks donated, but you can get some good deals on craigslist. Just keep your ear out!

I like them all, however space is limited in a tank so the smaller ones offer more chance for variety in an enclosed space.
