Hi I'm new here.
Hi, My name is Beverly. I am a stay at home Mom of three beautiful children. I'm new here and to the world of orchids.
My husband gave me my first Phalaenopsis 5 or 6 years
ago. It has flowered every year dispite the unintended abuse I gave it. I only fertilized it once, and the flowers started to fall off. I gave up on fertilizing. I bought a few more over the years and they keep flowering every year too. I then got a Dendrobium. Its doing much better now after splitting it and pretty much forgetting about it.
I have always enjoyed growing plants and herbs but recently became (for lack of a better word) obsessed with orchids. I found a Cymbidium,Oncidium, and another Dendrobium at a Trader Joe store. Thats when I was hooked. I started doing google searches and found a couple of orchid nurseries within an hour from me.
It's scary the number of plants I've bought in the past month. I'm waiting for the weather to get warmer so that the online nurseries can ship my orders.
I felt the need to repot my first Cymbidium because I'm sure it had fungus. I also repotted a Miltoniopsis Ruffles today because one of the pseudobulbs had turned a purpleish/ brown and felt a little squishy.
I hope I didn't make a big mistake. I really like my orchids and so do my kids.
I am looking forward to chatting with and learning from all of you.
Beverly

Beverly! You've come to the right place!
That is so cool that your kids like your chids too. I wish my mom had gotten me into orchids. As it stands, I'm trying to get her into orchids.
See you around the OB! There are so many great people with helpful info and they're all ready to enable you to get more orchids! Post pics when you get a chance. We love pics on OB!

Hi Evan,
I finally figured out how to upload pictures. I started an album. All my pitures are of plants I recently bought. Hopefully I be able to get them to bloom again.
I love that my kids enjoy alot of the same things I do. We spend alot of time gardening together. My 7 year old cant wait until she's old enought to drive a car so that she can go to an orchid nursery and buy her own orchids.

Nice to meet you. That's great that your kids like your plants. Mine do to . On a recent trip to the Oak Hill, my daughter who is 7 picked out an oncidium Twinkle. It's now in flower and she is soo excited, she looks at it everyday and examines it. Last summer when at a different nursery my son who is 4 chose a Phal Tiger Cub it had 2 peachy blooms on it. He was ssooo upset when the blooms went away. However he noticed this morning that it has a new leaf and was telling me "Mommy my plant is alive, it has a new leaf!" Kids!
Well welcome again!
