Default thank you for the lovely warm welcome everyone

Well I have nothing exotic, my limited collection is mostly some really beautiful Phalaenopsis which have been bought for me or if i spot a nice one at my local supermarket maybe as I get more experienced I will try some different types especially once I can source good quality sellers out in the UK I'm quite looking forward to the journey

Hi and welcome to Orchid Board Firefly! I'm glad you decided to join us. I started out with orchids the way you are. I got some phals, then bought what interested me in the supermarket and big box stores, and have now moved on to ordering from more specialized vendors.

You'll certainly have a lot of fun! It's a jounrey with no end... which is what I love about it

Default A question? ;)

I would like to ask a question and wonder if you all would share your idea's with me please? .
Currently I have my Orchids lined up along my kitchen windowsill, I would dearly love to display them in the lounge area where I could enjoy them more often does anyone have any suggestions how i could achieve this being sympathetic towards the plants requirements, or even share how you enjoy yours!

Hello there! (And a bit belated !!)

All of my orchids are grown on a windowsill - the kitchen, the dining room, and my 'side porch'/utility room which has lots of windows - just like you.

I will bring plants in bloom into the lounge to enjoy them and for the most part, the plants don't seem to mind too much. I do keep them away from extremes of temperature (so not too close to the radiators) and I check a bit more regularly to see if they need water. They tend to dry out a bit quicker in the lounge, so may need to be watered a bit quicker than the others.

I have found that they work well on the mantlepiece when in flower, or on an end table by the sofa. They also work really well as a centerpiece on the dining table. ...just some thoughts....

Hi FyreFly,

Great to have you here. I do what Shakkai suggests. I move my blooming plants to enjoy them around my house. No point in having a beautiful flower just looking out the window.

You really will love it here. Great info for every stage of this hobby (addiction), and the nicest folks on the web. Welcome!
