I see there are several different ways to post pictures. Is there a preferred method? Would someone be so kind as to give me a brief lesson?
Thanks.

My mom is exactly the same! She kills almost everything, which is really worrying me as I will have to leave my entire orchid collection in her care next year, since I am going to the USA for a 6 month internship....

Or...you could nominate an OB member to email her to check on the 'chids..Set up a virtual watering schedule if you will..

Hi there, and welcome to OB! Your mom sounds ideal to me
One thing, just make sure you read up on the cultural needs of each of the genera of plants that you have. You can keep all of them in a north window if you want, but you will not get blooms on many of them...they do require some bright light, and north windows often are not bright enough.
a good place to look for culture sheets is AOS | Home
Good luck! Let us know if you have questions. And no overwatering!

Becky -
thanks for the tips
The plants I have at work (2 milts & a phal) were suggested to me by the folks down the road at Fantasy Orchids. Those knowledgeable folks are familiar with the light I get, so I should be good to go. I may get them a supplemental light.
The catts will all be at home, where I have some different other facing windows. In my bedroom I have a big south east sliding door that they should like. As a bonus, I get to buy more stuff I need to pick up a 2 shelf unit to go there. I'm also considering a small greenhouse (shade house?) for my deck so everyone can go outside once the weather warms up. Fortunately I have a bit of time before I need to pick up new toys.
Our light here is a bit stronger than in most parts of the country, at 5500 ft with ~300 days of sun a year. Indeed, I've been warned to watch out for sunburn with some of the lower light plants.

Hi Red. i can't wait to see the pics. You sound as if you've got this covered and unlike most of us you probably won't kill as many, thanks to you mom, and finding this great place.
My prefered method is to download my pics, resize them. then come back to this thread click on Go Advanced then you'll see another link to add pics...can't remember how its titled but if you need help just ask.

Thanks Swamper. My mom is just cruising the galleries and says she loves your Blue Neon vanda. She's a real blue fan, but only has a few in catts and dendrobiums.

It's really bad that I can drive to the orchid shop at lunch in 10 mins. +And+ they know who I am now.
I'm in deep, deep trouble...
Of course I bought a plant - Phal Hawaiian Snowfall x Phal. Hita. It should be white with purple harlequin/leopard spots. 2 spikes, only 4 young buds on each spike, but one does have the beginnings of 2 branchings off the main spike.
So now I'm buying plants based on what they will look like, not the current prettiness. I guess that's progress.

My blue neon vanda? I have to check it out, I love blue too.
Yes they start calling you by name and you feel like Norm from Cheers (maybe before your time?)
Buying on what they will look like sounds like a good idea since you will definately have it blooming for much longer

Hi Red,
Welcome to orchid board. It is always nice to see families that share in the love of orchids. My wife and I have been doing this for about 6 years now. We have aquired about 3000 orchids since we started.
When we got started we received about 1000 plants that we won at the auction when Borlins went out of bussiness. We filled my moms basement untill we got the greenhouse up. I never herd the end of it. Now everytime she comes over I get the same question. Why do you have so many orchids and keep getting more?
Some people will never understand the addiction. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask. Everyone here is great and will help you with anything.

3000 is that a typo? WOW that's amazing I presume by now you must have an orchid business? Do you have a website if you do?
