One more suggestion: take a lot of pictures from different angles (no excuse for not doing it with the new digital cameras) and you will almost always get one or two that satisfy you. Professional photographers even in the days of film cameras would often take several rolls of the same scene to make sure that they got just the shot they wanted.

Ronald, Ive been looking at digital cameras this morning. Do you have a suggestions? I don't want to break the bank, just want something with a large LCD and easy to use and as many megapixels as I can afford.
Thanks so much for input! I've had such a warm welcome.

Hey Thumper, Welcome to the FAB OB!!
I have a Sony DSC-H3, and she works great! And won't break your bank.
She has a Carl Zeiss 10x zoom lens, and 8.1 MP.

Mauro uses the same camera as Jkelee and you've probably seen the great pictures he takes. I sometimes use my wife's Nikon P80 (when I don't want to get out all my equipment) 27-486mm (10.1 mp). Neither of these will break the bank and they are great cameras. you can take good pictures, too, with the smaller (and cheaper) digital cameras. It is not the camera that makes the biggest difference. It's doing a few simple things like providing a plain background, filling frames and thinking about what you are "shooting."

Hey, Ron...you said, Nikon P80". Or does your wife have a D-80? And is the lens a Nikkor or 3rd party?

She has a Coolpix P80 with a built in lens. This is a step up from the small pocket digital cameras, but it is another big step up to the D-80 which is a wonderful camera, but much more expensive.
I use a Canon EOS Rebel with an EP-S 17-85 IS USM lens, but am in the process of purchasing a macro lens for closer work.

You are welcome Howard. It irritates me a bit when people talk and act as if taking decent pictures is something mysterious and possible for to an elite few. When I started in photography years ago that was the impression I was given - you had to take classes and had to have expensive equipment, etc. It just ain't so. That's not to deny that there are those for whom photography is an art, and that few of us will ever become photographic artists. I'm not Ansel Adams and most of us will never be. But taking good pictures with the equipment that's available today is within the reach of everyone.
You have a good camera, by the way. I bought a Canon because the lenses I had were from a Canon, but I would otherwise have purchased the camera you are using. It is not necessary, however, to get a camera that good to take good pictures. The Nikon P80 can be purchased for less than half the price of the D80 and is a great camera.

Thanks for the interest in my "no camera" dilemma. I have a kodak that is held together by duct tape (that stuff is amazing and holds anything). I it dropped it of my jacket while on the bike at about 60 miles an hour . I guess its a testament that the camera still works. But, if you had to see what I go through to take a picture you would laugh.
I never did like it...but as a gift from my daughter, well you know you have to cherish things your kids give you.
I'm looking online and at the best buy, target, wal-mart circuit.

I finally bought a new camera. I ended up with a Canon PowershotSD1100 IS. Its been a learning curve. I swear it intimidates me But I'm learning!
Here is a current photo of a plant that has lost it's tag.
I don't have anything blooming at the moment.
