Hi Group,

My name is Craig Gibbon and im a new member from Sunny South Africa!!!!! I came across this forum a while back while looking for info on Neofinetia's I decided to join, because there is plenty on info on these little beauts!! A friend of mine from Holland has infected me with the Neofinetia virus!!! Is there any cure??? I have three already, a small growth of Benisuzume and two normal Neo's from Korea My largest plant is currently coming into bloom, it has three spikes, very happy!! Unfortunately, Neo's are virtually impossible to get here in South Africa. I want to get some more in the near future, but my friend, the one who infected me with the virus!!, will have to buy on my behalf! I have found them to be one of the easiest and most forgiving of orchids. I currently stay on a farm just outside of a little town of Empangeni, in the Province of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. Our climate is decidedly sub-tropical. We recorded one of the hottest days here about two weeks back, 48 Celsius (118 fahrenheit) and the Neo's were unaffected!! I cant say the same for my Stenoglottis!

The other Orchids that I grow are Stenoglottis, Various Southern African Terrestrials and Epiphytes and few other bits and pieces. I will be relocating to Johannesburg in the next few months so unfortunately I will have to find homes for the more cold sensitive orchids. Its going to be hard!! I will concentrate on more of the cooler growing stuff then!! So you lose some and gain others!!

Kind Regards,

Craig Gibbon

P.S This is an absolutely fantastic forum!!

A belated welcome Craig. If you haven't found more Neos yet, Else Hall at Outeniqua (formerly Stellenkloof) Orchids has some divisions for sale.

Hi,

Well a belated welcome to you too! This is an awesome forum and there is lots to read and learn from experianced and non experianced members.

Do you know if the division's that Elsa offers are of the normal Neo's or are of the fuukiran types?

My Collection of Neo's has grown quiet exponentially from when I posted this last.

My collection to date consists of:

Two clones of Neofinetia falcata from Korea
Two differant clones of Neofinetia richardsiana
One Clone of Neofinetia falcata from China
One normal Neofinetia falcata (sold to me as a pink spurred variety, when it flowered, it was NOT pink spurred )
Neofinetia falcata ' Benisuzume '
Neofinetia falcata ' Cyoseiden '
Neofinetia falcata ' Unkai '
Neofinetia falcata ' Soubiryuu '
Neofinetia falcata ' Kutsuwamushi '
Neofinetia falcata ' Nishidemiyako '

I have another 9 varieties on the way in the next couple of months.

Craig

Wow, that's quite the collection!

I'm not quite sure what the difference between "Normal Neos" and "fuukiran" is (I'm a Neo Neo-phyte, if you'll excuse the terrible pun!).

The description in Else's price list is:

Quote:
Miniature white species blooms February. Can make nice specimen plants. Single fan divisions of own plant.
I imagine it's a fairly standard Neo, but I stand to be corrected. I've only had mine a few weeks.
