Default hello-- new person!

I have one... fairly not so healthy "phael" (I can't spell the rest of it!) orchid that I would love help with!

I will eventually take a picture of it for all of you experts to diagnose its problems.

Anyhow, it is well rooted, but has five spikes which have all rotted before they did anything exciting.

Thanks to you, I've trimmed the root rot and I put cinnamon on the rotting spike after they rotted and I cut it back.

Anyhow... I desperately want to bring this poor guy/gal orchid back to health and I am counting on you!

Thank you for all of your wonderful information!

Jen

Jen, welcome to OB. You are my neighbor in Oregon.

This forum is a great place to learn and share the information on "growing orchids". Since I joined in Aug, I have learned so much and my 'wish' list is growing.

Oh, neato!
I'll look on your profile to see where you are from. Neighboring states, or Oregon?

Nice to meet you!

I have a board that I run with 30 thousand members, so I know how much work goes into these.

I'm thankful to the person who started it!

Jen

Jen, I am from Portland, OR. I visit Seaside for its orchid show every year.

They really put a nice show together.

Hi Jennie,

It's nice meeting you...welcome to the OB!

If you do get a chance to post a pic of your phal, I'm sure someone will be able to help out...a picture is worth a thousand words, as they say.

I visited Astoria for a week several years back, and thought I'd say that the area you live in is absolutely breathtaking in its natural beauty...I took day hikes every day I was there and will always cherish my memories of the area.

Yes, it is beautiful, here!

Molly, where can I buy good orchids in Oregon, and when is the orchid show in Seaside? I can't wait!

Jen, how is the weather over there. I heard that you guys were hit by a rain storm after the snow.

Anyway, I collected my plants through the orchid shows for the last 10 years. The orchid show in Seaside is sponsored by Sunset Empire Orchid Society. The show itself is not big, but they are the nicest people. It does not seem like that they have a website. Here is the list of the societies in Oregon, which I found in Oregon Orchid Society link.

Northwest Orchid Societies

The closest (time and distance from you) orchid show I can think of right now will be Portland Orchid Society Spring show in the enf of February at Portland Expo Center.

Oregon Orchid Society Spring show will be the Mother's day weekend in Portland, OR.

Thanks for the link. I'll do some shopping!
The weather is clear here this morning. (Cloudy and overcast is our "clear!")
But, really windy last night. Our river (The Kilchis) is flooded and looking very mighty this morning.. just feet from our home! Yikes!

Jennie: Just a general tip on having a more healthy plant, I have had great success by using Orchid Pro, made by a small florida company called TurfPro. We've discussed it on this board in the recent past, here is a link to their website where you can read about, TurfPro USA - Orchid Pro
but, be careful, there are other products out there that have similar names, and lack the beneficial microbiology, etc. Anyway, post a picture when you can, but, all of my orchids get OrchidPro treatment regularly, and they have never been happier! Welcome to the board!
