Hello all!
Thanks for the invite into your forum. I'm really happy to have found your web site and hope to learn much in the coming months of reading.
But why am I so happy! Because I’ve come to know about ORCHIDS! And can’t get enough of them.
Of course I wish I knew more about them so I would not have killed so many but we all live and learn.

At the moment my Angraecum distichum from West Africa had just only one bloom and lasted only 3 days. It is a slow grower and in good health. This plant is really cool looking and has small ¼ inch white flowers that smell like-- the taste of Vanilla with a slight after hint of a burning fire on a winter night. Of course one flower wont do, if you can find a plant with a number of them and put it in some sun you'll smell what I mean. haha.

My Vandofinetia Blaupunkt is just about setting out a florescent. This one has bloomed twice past for me and it has a lovely smell of, well, just chew on some grape bubble gum and you’ll smell what I mean.

I’ve had my share of losing orchids and right now I’m battling some kind of fungus that I had gotten on most of the plants that I brought out this past summer. I’m using a Rose fungus spray and hoping all goes well. As for any bugs that may be in your orchid pots. If you don't mind me suggesting. It best to find some of those little, and I mean little spiders with the multiple eyes and just let them go wild in your collection. They will get hungry soon enough and start eating everything.

It's nice to meet you...welcome to the OB!

I really like your screen name...I have one of these guys and it blooms faithfully every spring...each year with the same soft blue, sweet smelling small flowers. I'll have to post some pics when it blooms this year.

Say thanks David. I'm trying to fix my past photo posts now. I'll try and get some photos of my Vanda cross when it blooms. Which probable wont be until another month from now. It is just setting out a shoot. You are from the Naples area. I've been to Sanibel Island a really great beach. Knew a guy who grew Bromeliads though we've not kept in contact for a number of years. I haven't been on vacation since 2002. Anyway, would like to see your vanda and how it is potted and where you keep it. I'm still learning on how to take care of theses guys. Best to you, Paul.

I grow my vandas in a more or less outdoor setting in baskets with no potting medium. Here is a link to a post I made about my growing area:

I will take a few pics later in the week of the Vanda coerulescens, so you can see that one. It is still a relatively small plant, but grows well and has bloomed the last two years in spring. If you have specific culture questions about vandas, feel free to ask.
