Greetings from paradise-
Last night was our annual(and always incredible) Maui Orchid Society Christmas party. The focus this year was species and I came home with 7 wonderful new plants - 6 species and 1 beautiful blue ascocenda(sp? sorry)
This morning I was tagging my plants( I love to track origin date and source as well as blooming and repotting dates for all my orchids) and was not able to find any info in my species books on a sweet L. rubescens alba. A google search led me to this site and several hours later I am impressed with all the info and definite aloha I sense.
I look forward to spending time here learning and visting

I grew up in Vermont - only lived on Maui for 21 years - and I definitely know how lucky I am to be picking tomatoes for my dinner salad on 12/14! This is a marvelous plac eot grow things - although pests do flourish also. I enjoyed the tip about using hydrogen peroxide - I rotate neem oil, 70% isopropyl alcohol, a wicked chili pepper spray that i make plus as much visual vigilance as schedule permits - nice to have a new weapon to fight those pesky pests. I think I'll learn some good stuff here.

Hi Victoria
Welcome to Orchidboard...it's a wonderful place to meet great people from around the world and share a common love...orchids!
According to Orchidwiz, L. rubescens alba likes very high light (avoiding direct midday sun), more than other Laelias, along with high humidity. Reduce water once a bloom spike starts.
welcome victoria! we look forward to hearing about your collection and maybe seeing some pics of hawaii and your orchids! welcome to the friendliest board on the net!
Im always happy when I see other Hawaii growers on the OB!! There are surprisingly few kamaina on the OB, considering how many of us grow orchids out here! Good to see you and I look forward to hearing about your 'chids!!
Aloha Victoria! You live on my favorite place on the planet. Welcome to OB! We definitely have the Aloha spirit here. I look forward to seeing some pics of your chids!
Welcome Victoria. By now, I am sure you get the picture: we welcome all orchid growers. When you get around to it you might want to share pictures of your 'chids. We love pictures here.
