Hi I am Lyn
I grow cattleya alliance orchids in Florida. I am a memberof the Volisia County Orchid society and plan on building a greenhouse next year. I LOVE large showy cattleya flowers and collect primarily species and a few hybrids. I am experimenting with different growing mediums to see what works best for different orchids.

Aboard Lyn, yippeee another Floridian It's great that you have joined the OB, a wealth of information awaits you. Many of our members grow in greenhouses as well as indoors. Catt are one of my favorite (way to many to choose from). We have a gallery where you can post your s. You have joined the best orchid board on the web...happy to have you.
Where in Florida do you reside. I live east of Orlando, almost born and raised here, soon to be moving back to the east coast Melbourne/Sebastian area.

Another Florida Orchid lover
Hi Cheryl, I live in Deland fl about 30 miles from Melborne. I work second shift at a medical factory as a Plastic Molding Setup Technician so I do not get to attend many orchid shows or meetings but when I have time I am on the computer looking for information and I have bid on a few plants on E-bay. An orchid society member just sold me some of her plants as she is relocating to Ecuador! My dream is to someday retire in a tropical country where I can grow without cold weather but now I have to convince my husband this is a good idea. He seems to tolerate my orchid addiction pretty well although he is bored at most of the functions. I am interested to hear what you are up to so please reply when conveniant for you. looking forward to hearing from you. Lyn Collina

Hi!
Hi Susan B., I will try to chat on the nights i am off but my husband and I are usually out and about. I work 3-11 and quite a bit of O.T. I used to be an active member in V.C.O.S. but my career has taken over. My dogs, my orchids and my computer not to mention housework keep me busy during the day and I work evenings. I think I am addicted to spring fever and having an orchid in bloom is like having spring all year long! Unifoliate cattleya species and hybrids are my favorites but I love them all and would love to live in a cloud forest like Monteverde Costa Rica! Is Spring Hill North or South FL?Write when you can and tell me what you like to grow! Looking forward to hearing from you. Lyn Collina

Hey, Lyn..we are practically neighbors, I live not to far from Deland, use to run the paths of nature in your neck of the woods, but with those events behind me...I am south of you in Casselberry. Currently working at the Lee Rd HD (home depot), moved from outside garden to the specialty departments due to an injury which my doctor forbids me to go back for at least 18 months, stinks. I know of 1 or 2 members in your area...I as well am having a hard time getting to AOS meetings, so I stay abreast on the websites.
We have quit a few members in FL, Sue is west of us near Weiki Watchee (ok, laugh at the spelling, need a break here), we have them scattered in Melb., Palm Bay, Mahon is in Tampa, Ft Pierce, Tony in West Palm and many more...we are growing here in Fl as they are in Canada, so many from Canada lately I was hoping for a Fl hobbist to sign up.
I grow indoors, in a breakfast nook which possession was 9/10 the law when I moved my hubbies cooking gadgets out and about 70 orchids share in this space ... shhhh...guess what my kids are getting me for x-mas...geez I like surprises....lol. It's great your here

Hi again Lyn..call me Sue, everybody does
Spring Hill is on the west coast about 40 miles or so north of Tampa. I grow all my 'chids (140+) outdoors on my lanai but my sunroom construction will be starting soon ( ) I have lots and lots of pictures posted in my gallery and in the What's In Bloom section of the forums. I've totally lost my mind and any sense of self-control that I ever had!
Cheryl, your spelling on that one wasn't too far off:
it's Weeki Wachee (The City of Live Mermaids)
...and Pat (Mahon) is in Sarasota
By the way, we have members across the globe! Australia, Canada, Spain, Italy, India and the list goes on and on (sorry to anybody I left out )

Awww, I just can't imagine that , but I would hate to leave a package on the door step with your cold temps . In all reality, it gives us Florida growers an opportunity to catch up on the count with our northern family members
