howdy from a youngblood
Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to everyone. I'm a windowsill grower, but I'm only 17 so I figure it's a good start. I've got 10 babies right now, one of which is my first from flask (tissue culture clone actually) and is coming along nicely. I recieved it as a gift when I toured Penn State's horticulture greenhouses (where I will be studying for the next 4 years or so) and all I know is that it is a hybrid that they developed, so I am very excited to see how that turns out in the next couple years. I'm also beginning the switch over to semi-hydro and I just ordered a starter kit from Firstrays. Anyway, it feels good to get involved in such a great support system and I am happy to be here.

Youngblood's are needed! :)
Very cool, and ! I started growing orchids when I was in 8th grade. So I guess I was about 14. My mom took me to Kensington Orchids, which was a HUGE complex with literally acres of greenhouses. I walked in, saw tables of blooming orchids, and knew I was hooked for life from that moment on.
I went to Virginia Tech, and one of the many majors I tried out was horticulture. I got some cool plants from the greenhouses there. I ended up with a Masters in Evolutionary Biology from there, and then went to George Mason University to get a degree in Nursing, and now I'm a nurse, lol...with 75 orchids in my windowsills, as you put it.
Anyhow, good for you!! School is going to be fun I bet!! Welcome to the Board. There's lots of good information and fun to be had too. This is a pretty silly group sometimes.

Hey Sound Aboard, never to young to enjoy the beauty of an orchid, just makes me mad I was such a late bloomer, can't say much for my dends but that's a whole different story (might arouse Tony on that one). A wealth of information awaits you here on the OB where the family help with your growing needs. I as well have a hort cert, going in March for my master gardener, as I continue with my A.S. in Bus Admin. Never to old to school, been continuous for 20 yrs now and still lovin' it. It's great your here and if your around in the evenings join in on the chats and it would be great to see your progress with your new babies.

Hey! Welcome to Orchid Board. 17 is nice young age to start learning. Unless you allready know everything about orchids?
In anycase, you got a leg up on me. I became interested cause I was/am deprived of nature being from the city. My picture of heaven, a nice mossy green field with tons of frogs and orchids, and aroids, and, well all the living things under the sky

The best...and easiest way of posting a pic in a thread is to put in a thumbnail! They open to full sized pics when they're clicked on...
