Hello Male
Default Hello

Hello from Chicagoland area,

I'm new to this board. I've been growing orchids under lights for about 10 years. I have a nice setup in my office. I have two light stands side by side, each one with a 400 Watt Metal Halide lamp. Under each stand is a table with 3 humidity trays There is a West facing window which provides some extra light. I am able to raise and lower the Halide fixtures as the bulb's light output diminishes over time. I use a good light meter to provide the proper amount of light. I have a room humidifer and a fan as well.
Currently, I have 22 orchids with about half of them, Cattleyas. Because of my limited space, I try to grow only fragrant orchids.

I look forward to scanning this board for any tips or information about growing fragrant orchids under lights.

Thanks

Welcome DStolte!

It's nice to meet you and to hear about your office set up. I'm fortunate that I get to grow my chids outdoors, however my home office window does look out into my shade house.

When I'm working at the hospital, I do manage to bring in something blooming at least once a week...I've even managed to get a few of my fellow nurses addicted to them too.

I look forward to seeing you around the forums, and to seeing pics of your plants and set up. Take care.
