hello Male
Default hello

Hello from western nc. I started out doing this as a gift to my wife and have quickly become addicted. We started out buying four plants from the half dead rack at lowes. Two catt hybrids, a brass hybrid, and one noid. We have roots and new growths on three of them and this past weekend, after two weeks of reading almost every post in the beginner section, we purchased some new plants. We got an NBS apple blossum and a lisa taylor that had buds on it. We also purchased three seedling catt hybrids and three paph seedlings. I have the catts in south facing window with two 40 watt CFL lights about 6 inches above. The paphs are in a west facing window with the blinds partially closed. The catts seem to be happy and have some red tinges onthe leaves. The buds on the lisa are opening and we can't wait for the apple blossum that everyone seems to rave about. Let me know what you think of the set up and again, Hello.

Hi and welcome to Orchidboard!

I'm so happy to hear that our forum gave you the confidence to go get more chids! This is a great place to learn...the people here are so generous with their experiences, it's just wonderful!

I don't really know much about lighting so I can't help you there but I wanted to tell you to be prepared for the most magnificent fragrance when your Iwan Apple Blossom blooms! I can't be near it without smiling when I smell that one!

If you have questions, please feel free to ask

Hi Sleepy...it's nice to meet you...welcome to the OB!

Your set up looks great to me, as far as I can tell. Like Sue, I'm also not to familiar with lighting, but I do know that they sometimes produce a lot of heat, so be careful your lights aren't too close to the leaves...I wouldn't want to hear about those beautiful green leaves getting burnt.

I look forward to seeing you around the forums. take care, and have fun.

By the way, where abouts in western NC are you...my dad lived in Canton for several years, and my step daughter lived in Boone before moving to eastern TN. I'm not sure about where Morgantown is, and was just curious.

I got ya...I must have passed through there at least a few times in my travels along 40 to visit my dad. It's a beautiful area. Thanks.

After almost 30 years, I'm also just getting into Paphs. Fascinating plants! Good luck with yours.
