Please suggest an orchid for a newbie.

Could anyone suggest an orchid that might be easier for a newbie? I would prefer white if that is an option. TIA

You can pick up a white phalaenopsis almost anywhere for under $25 and they are perhaps one of the easiest to take care of.

I live in Minnesota and haven't had much luck in the past.

If you have a very sunny place, I'd recommend Brassavola nodosa, you can summer them outdoor in the summer and bring them inside and supply them with artificial light in winter, they'll do well for you.
Phalaenopsis of course. Big Leaf Orchids - online phalaenopsis store sells many types of phalaenopsis, and the owner, Peter, is a nice person, you can email him and ask him for more information.
Neofinetia falcata is a nice one for beginner, too. requiring medium to high light and is temperature tolerance. It will grow nicely in a small pot with "sphagnum moss ball" without any additional medium. Orchids and Orchid Supplies is big about Neofinetia so you can check them out. Plus, they're in Minnesota, maybe they're right by you.
