Hello from Virginia
I have an orchid problem.
They are slowly taking over my office, my house, my life. They are multiplying, appearing through the mails, mysteriously turning up on my windowsills and light cart (where did THAT come from?). So, my solution . . . join a forum to talk about orchids!
I got my first orchid about 18 months ago as "company" in my office, where it joined an African violet and some Rex begonias. I think I ordered it on a whim from Ebay. Now, I have somewhere in the range of 25-30, mostly Phals and Paphs, with a number of Zygos (my favorites) and some other genera (mostly low to medium light) thrown in, most of them gotten on sale in one place or another, or from e-bay. I'm beginning to get my first reblooms, which I suppose demonstrates I haven't completely wasted my money!
Anyway, I thought it was time to introduce myself to my fellow orchid addicts.

Just thought I'd say Hello! I don't know the first thing about orchids. Which is why I'm here (see my post). Anyway, good luck with yours!

Hello to both of you. Sounds like addiction - like orchid addiction. I've personally gone up and down with a low of 3 or 4 plants to a high (right now) of over a hundred. In fact I don't count anymore! Not knowing about orchids shouldn't stop one from purchasing orchids It just is an excuse to learn. We are here to help, to discuss, to revieve, etc. There are so many different attitudes and viewpoints here that we might just represent the whole orchid-growing world! Hope you like it here. Glad you joined.

Let me add my welcome. This really is a great place to learn, and everyone here is very encouraging. You have to watch that though, before long you will have filled every windowsill you have and will be thinking about a greenhouse!
Lila, I grew up in Alexandria and graduated from TC Williams. Small world, huh? I wasn't into orchids back then, but I'm smarter now. Great to have you here. Be sure to post some pics when you get those re-blooms. We love pictures!

Welcome to orchidboard!
Orchids have a way of creeping up on you, and next thing you know they have invaded every single inch of free space available! Mine started taking up too much room, so now I buy minis. They are great since you can have many more orchids in the same space. Do you have any pictures of your orchids?
I used to live not far from you before I moved to France. I lived in Reston, VA.

(yes, I am VERY pleased with myself). I'll also try to drag the camera in and catch the office . . . my system pretty much puts anything blooming in the office, so that's where the show is!
So, it might be a little bit on the orchid pics . . . but how about a pic of one of my other little addictions: meet Sarama, the wondermutt
Who, fortunately, has no interest what-so-ever in orchids. Unlike the cats . . .
