Hello from Rome
Smile Hello from Rome

to everybody, I live just outside of Rome, in the Castelli Romani area where the famous Frascati wine comes from. I 'm a neofita and I started to get hooked on orchids since my first one beginned unexpected to flower. So I just order few plants from Germany yesterday and I am just waiting to get them as soon as possible. I hope I will not make any mistake and I' m sure I'll find lots of suggestion on this site. Danik

Welcome Danik! We're happy to have you here. We do love photos so be sure to take a few when your Neo opens. One thing is for sure about orchids - we all will make mistakes. That's why we are here!

Hi and welcome!

Oh... you said wine I love wine! Mainly red wine though, and some blushes. Not so much for the white wine.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the place! Yes, most temperatures posted here will be in fahrenheit. If you need the conversion to celcius here it is:

Temp in C = 5/9(Temp in F/(Temp in F-32))

Welcome to Orchidboard!!
It's nice to have more fellow Europeans here. I also come from a wine region, the Beaujolais in France.

Which orchids did you order? I like knowing what others are buying, it gives me more ideas! Nichole gave you the formula to convert °F to °C, but it is probably easier to find a converter on internet. I added one to my i-google page, so making conversions is super easy!

As to where to put your orchids, it depends what type of climate you have and also what kind of orchids you have. We can help you figure is out if you would like. Unless you have very warm winters, a north facing wall may be a bit chilly, and there will not be a lot of sunlight

Hello from Rome
Default My order

this is the list of the orchids I ordered from Germany, I saw a link to the shop on this site, so you might know it. At the moment, as it is a new passion, that I'm sure is going to last, I'm just going sperimenting and following my heart not using any kind of particolar reason. I've already some miniature orchids, which I like a lot, one of them is growing new plants from the old flowers, I've got a ludisia discolor, few cambria and phalenopsis. They had been all summer on my balcony that is south facing. I just put them in the porch, that is north facing and gets a lot of sun in the morning. It isn't very cold during the winter, rarely we go below zero C during the night, so I hope is going to be all right beacause the porch is just few degrees below the house temperature and I'm going to doble glaze the porch in few days. I'll be getting a greenhouse for all my plants as soon as possible and it will be south facing. All my friends say I should put all my orchids outside under the olive trees that are on the west side of the house, but I'm not sure it could be right in winter during the night. Anyway most of my new orchids will stay inside the house beacause I like to have plants around me, but I would like to have the most resistent ones into the porch beacause it looks very nice to get in a green corner coming into the house. As soon I'll have time I'post some pictures of the porch and of the flower bed is behind it into the house where I could put few orchids. If You or somebody else have any suggestions to give me I'll be glad.
Here is the list:
Bifrenaria harrisoniae, Dendrobium antennatum, Dendrobium lindleyi, Coelogyne cristata, Cattleya Sophia Martin x Thospol Spot, Dendrobium thyrsiflorum, Phalaenopsis violacea var. coerulea, Maxillaria grandilora, Phalaenopsis wilsonii, Rhynchostylis retusa, Paphiopedilum bellatulum, Oncidium mimeticum
By the way people in this german shop are really nice and helpfull I just wait for my plants to come and will tell you how the are. Thanks for now.
