Welcome to Orchid Board. I live on Long Beach Peninsula, WA, probably not too far from you, so we may share common growing issues. Everyone here is very knowledgable, helpful and friendly. Good luck with your growing collection.

Hi Ottercottage! I live about 2 hours east of Long Beach, near the Longview/Kelso area. So I've got slightly higher temps in summer and slightly lower in winter, but our growing conditions should be pretty similar. Do you have any recommendations for orchids that do especially well here? I've got south, west and one east window for orchids. I can pretty much alter any other conditions to suit the orchids.

Hi, greenbean,

Happy to meet you! I'll get back to you soon with some ideas. I only started growing/collecting in Vancouver in1999, so am by no means an expert. I learned by making a lot of mistakes through lack of research and know-how! Had to learn to separate my desires from what would grow successfully and make me happy! OrchidBoard has been a great resource for learning. I'll hook you up as a Buddy if that's okay. Stay in touch... Robbi

Hehe, I've had to learn to carefully control my purchases too. I'm a freshman in college and still plan on going home to my parents for a few years, so whatever I bring home they have to deal with . For diplomacy's sake I do a lot of research and only buy from a highly refined list. Not only do I have to make sure things will grow well, so they aren't a hassle for the folks, I don't have much space (I'm looking more and more into miniatures), and I have less money. Maybe I'll convince Mom and Dad that they need a greenhouse one of these days!

Go ahead and add me as a Buddy. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Evan
