Default G'day from WA

G'day all,
Lyn & I live on a 5 acre bushblock about 90 mins South of Perth Western Australia.
We have ID'd 150 different species of natives so far including 25 native Orchids. We do not propagate Orchids as we have heaps growing naturally.
Our other love is for Tropical fish, mainly from Lakes in Africa. we have about 50 tanks including several display & many breeding tanks. As you can tell our work load is pretty large so it's good that we are both retired, although Lyn is still doing Website design as you can see at Fish and Flora

We also have a pond & a bog garden which are inhabited by about 20 Motor Bike frogs. We get heaps of wildlife on the block including Kangaroos, Emu's, Race Horse Goanna's, Brush Tail & Western Ringtail Possum's, Red Tail & White Tail Black Cockatoos, Kookaburra's and many smaller birds such as Blue Wrens, Silver Eyes, Robins & various Honey Eaters.

We both consider ourselves very lucky to live where we do on such a beautiful piece of Australia.

Cheers
Col & Lyn

Hi Col & Lyn,
Welcome to the Orchid Board!
This is a great place with lots of fantastic and friendly people.
Your web site is just great, and I abosolutely adore your tropical fish. They are AMAZING!
Guess what? I live in Perth. We are 10mins from the city, near the University.
I grow mainly phals & phal species. My other interest is Carnivorous Plants.
Hope to see you around the OB!
Cheers,
Juliet

Welcome, Col and Lyn! Sounds as though you lead a very interesting life! I hope you'll find time to share photos of some of your native orchids. We'd love to see them!

Col and Lyn

I am sure you will find Orchid Board interesting. Lots of helpful people here. 5 acres with all that you have sounds great, especially the animals and all your wild orchids. Aren't you lucky? I've never heard of the Motorbike Frog but his call is amazing. I have bookmarked the frog website as it was very interesting and I am trying to identify the call of some frogs who live here but stay in hiding. I live on 1 1/4 acres in Brisbane but only have lots of birds visiting, some frogs, including the green tree frog, these guys are beautfiul, and the occasional snake.

Your website is great.

Sue

Isn't Col and Lyn's website great, especially all those native orchids?

I am also interested in Carnivorous Plants as well as orchids, but sourcing them is very difficult here in Brisbane. I bought a beautiful Nepenthes Gothica at The Glasshouse Mountains Orchid Show recently but it's all I have seen around in the way of CP'S. Where do you buy yours? I know you have a CP nursery in WA - do they sell to anyone in Bris? Occasionally Bunnings have a Venus Fly Trap but you may know of a secret source in Oz that you can share.
