Default Hello from Palm Springs

Hello,

I am new to the forum, but not new to orchids. I have around 100 orchids, most in S/H. I have a diverse collection that includes Paphs, Phrags, Catasetinae, Onc, Dends, and even a couple of Phals.

I look forward to talking with you here.

Jay

Hi Jay,

Welcome to the OB! I'm sure that you'll have fun here, and learn lots too. I'll probably not be the only one to mention this, but we love pics of members' plants, so if you have any....we'd love to see them.

I spent a long weekend in Palm Springs several years back...hiked up into Palm Canyon and went to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert, amongst other things. It's a beautiful area! I am wondering how you are able to keep the humidity up for your plants...I remember how dry it was when we were there, and am just curious.

Humidity is a trick. I use humidity trays, misting, and I have an ultrasonic fogger in each humidity tray that is on a timer. My plants may not grow as fast as they would in a greenhouse, but I still get good results with the S/H. I think this also adds a minimal amount of humidity from the evaporation off the top of the LECA.

I will try to post some pictures soon.

Hi Jay. It's good seeing you again and here at OB. This board has more info. than you'll know what to do with and a lot of members here into s/h, like you! Ray, the s/h inventor, posts here frequently.

Great members, outstanding, friendly, helpful moderators and a lot of diversion going on here.

Enjoy yourself. Lots of familiar faces too, you'll see.

Sandy
aka Sandra

P.S. New posts run off the first page (window) quickly here. There are lots of posts going on. Once you get familiar with the differences here from what you're used to, you'll find it very easy to keep current. One way that helped me in getting back to all the topics I was interested in or may have posted to was by going into "my profile" and scanning through the recent posts. This helps to keep on top of everything.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I have some work to finish for today, but should be able to post some pictures by the end of the week.

Sandy, nice to see you. Thanks for the tips.
