Gonna try Catts indoors again!
Hello everyone,
I'm getting back into orchids again after pretty much giving up on Cattleya's (under flo. lights) about 25 years ago. I now have some HPS and MH lighting and am going to give it another shot. My wife and I grow Phal's pretty easily on our window sills, but the Catt's are my favorites.
I'm semi-retired now and took a part time job in an adult education facility that has nearly an acre of state of the art greenhouses. Guess what? We grow orchids! 2 of the 4 greenhouses are filled with thousands of orchids. They are mostly Phals but there are some Catt's, Brassia, Den's, Cym's, Vandas, and other assorted genera. I love working there. It's difficult not to buy every new orchid that I see blooming--I fail to pass them up----too often.
Anyways, as of today at home, we have about 65 orchids total, summer them outdoors as much as is practical without a greenhouse, and winter them in the kitchen, dining room, or under the lights (2--400 watt lights) in the basement. The basement is where all my cats (most new this year) and other high light orchids will winter. We'll see how it goes. If anyone has any advise or tips on growing Catt's under lights, I'd be happy to hear from you.
Thanks,
Paul
