Remember, good roots make good flowers...or in your case good tendrils make good flowers.

I am guessing here that what you called tendrils are actually aerial roots, which are quite common on phals. If you post a photo, I bet we could provide you with information that will help you identify the parts of phal plants, and it would be neat using your own plant as the example.
