Default Hello! ..or.. Now I've Gone and Done It!

Hi Folks!

First I'd like to thank my sister .. Susiep .. for introducing me to this Interest/Hobby. Just what I needed .. another consuming and somewhat expensive interest !! grrrrr...

She was visiting this weekend and I showed her my nice new Pergola ... which -of course- needed some .. color. Well, off we go to the Peach State Orchids here in N. GA .. and there you go ... didn't buy anything - yet- but the bug bit.

So now I'm getting shade cloth/sun screen for the roof at Lowes and there are all these 'discount' Orchids. So now I have 5 projects plants ($29 total) .. plus I'll get a few healthy from the Peach State Orchids next week. hehehe .. I'm so easy ..

They'll go well with the Bonsai I have there already .. another 'fun' hobby I have pics of the poor dears in my gallery.

Steve

You are going to really enjoy your orchids! Especially now that you have I really great place to grow them. You may curse me when you have to bring them in for the winter. But all the indoor growers here on OB will tell you how to set that up. By the way my new plants made it home in the suitcase without getting destroyed!

Steve, to OB. Nice bunch of 'chids you've got there to kick start your obsession . It shouldn't be too long now before you start adding to your collection

Hi Steve

$29 for 5 orchids. You don't know how cheap that is. Here in Oz we can pay that much for one Phaly. Your shaded pergola will be very nice when it is finished and is home for your new orchids and they will be just outside the door - easily accessible. That's where I would like my shadehouse - just outside the door.

Nice to see a member of the family joining our family
I made some comments on the tag of the phals you posted in your gallery .. Just to give you some starters on Phal names and award designation

You might want to repot those phals in clear slotted containers .. to increase the air circulation to the roots to prevent rotting - also to take a look at the roots and see what condition they are in
There are a number of different mediums you can use .. depending on your growing conditions and how often you intend to water .. will determine which will be best for you -
Do searches the Beginner's Discussion and Phalaenopsis forum - Mediums have been discussed a lot on the board
Just a suggestion

Thanks .. my sister, susiep, is going to help me with all that .. via phone .. today. They were in plastic pots with good drainage but then placed in the colorful pots with none. Several really reeked of rot .. nasty! I rinsed them fully last night and they're better this am.

I have had bonsai on and off for years and understand the importance of proper pots and root management. Now I have to get building shelves or and plant stand for the Sun Room to bring them in soon .. mid Oct probably in this area. (Atlanta)

Thanks,

Steve

Hi and welcome to Orchidboard, Steve!

Susie's a great gal...it's been a pleasure getting to know her
What a good girl! Seeing an empty pergola and immediately thinking about how many and which varieties of orchids would look lovely in it!

We're happy to have you here with us too

You'll find any information you need about orchids here on OB...just ask a question and folks from around the world will jump in to help you
