Hello From Florida Male
Default Hello From Florida

Hello everyone,

I'm quite a beginner to orchids. In search of how to take care of my orchids,I found the Orchid Board.Thank you for being here.

I have been fascinated with 'chids for a long time and finally after much reading and research have bought my first.I bought a Phalaenopsis Amabilis (White Moth Orchid, Moon Orchid) because it is supposed to be a good starter 'chid and easy to raise. I will be posting pictures in the next few days. I have it home and doing well but I think it needs to be re-potted. I am sure I will ask lots of silly questions or questions that may be answered else where but please everyone bear with me....

I hope to learn a lot from this site.

Thank You.

Hi Benjamin
Nice to see you made it here
I didn't realize you are in Florida! Where are you located? I'm in Spring Hill.

The Phal you chose as your first chid is a lovely choice...we'll "need" to see pictures when you get the chance

If you need help with anything, let us know

By the way I am very interested in native Florida plants especially ones that are becoming rare and/or hard to find. I have quite a collection that i am helping to preserve at my families homestead in Gainesville area. Now that I am getting into orchids I want to do the same and I am being ambitious and want to work my way to such elusive orchids as the Ghost Orchid. I also will be collecting others along the way...

Hi Benjamin,

Welcome to the OB!

I also live in Florida...Naples to be exact. I have a moderately large collection of plants, 1/3 of which are species. Three of these are seed raised natives to my area (I've tried the Ghost a couple of times, but have not been successful). There are a few others I'm interested in adding along the way...I just need to find a good source.

Let me know how you make out on your trip to Florida Native Orchids this week, and which natives they have available. I'm going to be making a trip up that way in a couple of weeks, and might stop by myself if I hear a good report.

I look forward to more posts from you. Have fun in the forums!

Welcome! Hopefully you do not mean actually collecting the FL native orchids along the way...
