Cool Aloha from the Big Island of Hawai'i

I am brand new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mari (or Malia in Hawai'ian) and I have been actively growing orchids for 6 years now. I have about 75 plants, both in pots and on trees and I can't get enough of them. Mahalo for letting me join....this looks like a great place to ask questions and talk about a common passion. Again, mahalo!

Mahalo to you as well. Have been to the Big Island and love it! Hilo is a very wet, but beautiful part of the Island. I stayed in Waikiblowa south of Kona. By Brother in law owns a condo there. I would love to see pics of your orchids. We love pics here! Welcome.

Aloha, Malia!

You definitely have the advantage of a climate that allows you to grow many types of orchids outside!

I haven't been to the islands in over a decade. I went to high school on Oahu. *sigh* Been a long time without decent Asian cuisine, no taro chips, no freshly roast Macademia nuts ..... I think I need to get a bit to eat

"Malia", hmmm, seem to recall a lady I knew in college by that same name telling me it meant "flower" in Hawaiian...

Aloha

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
My favorite orchid store in Hilo is Puna Orchids. I have never been over there yet I know you have your own mocro climate of your own in Hilo. I adore Kelley and Tricia who works at Puna. That would be my ultimate fantasy to just have my orchids growning off the trees and never having to worry about the weather. I would probally have a 100 or more different on each tree. What an incredible site that would be. Please send us some pictures of your orchids.

Happy Growing!

Lee

Mahalo Lee! Yes, the climate here is ideal for orchids. I do have some pics posted in my gallery if you want to see. I can also send some of the ones blooming now if you give me your email addy. I missed the deadline on the calendar entries, darn it! I had one picture I would have like to have entered in that. Oh well....there's always next year.

Take Care,
Mari
