Default Hello From Kentucky

Just jumping in to say hello.

I have been collecting for a few years and have over 120orchids. All but 12 are doing FANTASTIC in Semi-hydro S/H setups. I have a large sunroom supplemented by 4 440 watt, 6500k compact florescents. I have over 30 plants in bloom right now with at least a dozen more in bud, sheath or spike.

So why aren't my last 12 orchids in S/H? Well, I have some Vandas in baskets and a 4' tall potted Vanda Josephine that are not good candidates. I have several large Slippers. I just can't get the damn things to quit blooming long enough to convert them and I don't have the heart to break some LONG blooming cycles. I have a Paph Sedenii Blush in a 12" pot that has been in constant bloom for almost 2 years. It is a sequential bloomer and has 9 active bloom spikes right now. Dozens of buds & blooms. I'll post some pics when I figure out how. --- Ed

Welcome! Looking forward to see your pictures. I cannot suggest you anything on how to post them. I haven't tried to post pictures here yet.

Hi Ed and welcome to OrchidBoard

With a line like... "I just can't get the damn things to quit blooming", pictures are a must-have!!!

Here's a little help, please don't hesitate to ask if you have a problem with anything on OB

To keep continuity in the threads, it's best for pics to be resized (although many members don't do that ), here's a link to help you with that:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...read.php?t=871

To put thumbnails in your posts, which will open to full-size pictures, another link:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...read.php?t=872

To start putting photos in your gallery, click on Gallery in the left-hand column of the forum page. You'll see My Photos just above the Welcome... . Click on that, find Upload Photos on the right side of the page, click there.
Browse for your photos, select which ones you want to post, and follow the links to completion.

Written out, it seems like a lot of steps, but it's really not complicated at all.

Now...

and we'd love to hear more from you. We have a number of members gathering each night in the chat room. We usually start arriving around 8pm est. Always an interesting conversation...always something to learn...and always a great time Hope to see you there

I know I don't. But in defense. If its not a series of pictures to show a progression I just put a link to the photo . I think the somewhat bigger photos totally add to the effect of the progression. I have some in the works now just need another 24 hours for one and it should be ready

Aboard from Kentucky, its great to have you on the OB. There is a wealth of information ahead of you and please do not hesitate to share in your experiences. 120 chids, sounds like a wonderful collection. Can not wait for you to share your s, a wonderful feature in the OB "personal gallery"...

Sailor, How about giving me an update on the Kentucky weather expected for Saturday? My fellow orchid buddy and I have a date with the Breeder's Cup and we were trying to figure what it might be like at Churchill Downs. I was there once in March and it was bitterly cold and as I was looking at stallions, I was right out in the weather. It has never really been a great state for orchids probably because of the paucity of commercial growers there. You sound like an addict!!
