Default Hey Hey Hey!

My name is Nina and I've from New Jersey. I've always loved orchids but was intimidated to grow them. I finally gave in! I have two plants. One is a Cattleya and the other one... well, I'm not sure.

I came here to get some help because I'm not exactly sure I know what I'm doing!

Nice to meet all of you!

Hi Nina

Welcome to Orchidboard

Here's a Cattleya care sheet:
http://www.orchidboard.com/Cattleya-Culture-Care-Sheet

and if can post a picture of the other one, we can figure out what it is and what it needs

If you need help with anything, please feel free to ask. We've got a great group of folks here at OB

Hey, nice of you to joins us here on OB. You made the right choice... this is the place to learn all you can about orchids and the folks here are really nice!

Don't worry, we were all intimidated at some point in our lives to start growing orchids.... as a matter of fact, i used to kill them off until i figured out how to actually get them to grow. Who knew they didn't like soil. may they rest in peace. Now I got a nice collection (350 +).

We'd love to see pics of your or-kids.

Thanks so much for the warmest welcome!

Okay. Here's the one I'm not sure about. My mother-in-law's friend gave this to me. She had it for 4 years and told me to just water it twice a week.

I noticed she had the plant potted in soil. When I looked closely I noticed worms so I freaked and purchased a Better-Gro Orchid Mix, and repotted it. It was growing nicely before I repotted it. It's been a few weeks now but some of the leaves wilted and I'm wondering if I'm killing it.

Cb977 - Thanks so much for the care sheet!

Wow that's a nice phalaenopsis you got there. But you need to keep the media moist but not wet. You'll see the difference once you start to do that.

You made the right choice too, that orchid mix should be good for a year or two.

Stasisgate Thanks so much for identifying it for me. Now I can figure out what to do with it.

Kiki It looks that way, doesn't it. I'm wondering if I should separate them?

The other thing I'm worried about is the temperature. The temperature is pretty constant because we have air conditioning. We have it set at 75 during the day, and 78 at night. I'm wondering if I should move it outside during the day and put in the house at night?

I think those temps are good, it sounds like ideal temp for them actually.
