Hello Ganja,
This is my first posting to the OB...and i am also from Ala...Jacksonville, AL. Just to let you know that there are quite a few orchid growers and hobbiest in the state...and there at least three orchid society in AL. There is HODOS(Heart of Dixie Orchid Society) in Huntsville,AL....There is NEAOS(Northeast Ala Orchid Society) in Anniston, AL and there is the Birmingham Orchid Society...in Birmingham,Al. I'm not really sure if there is a society in Mobile or not,but please dont be afraid to attend any of these society's meetings. There are amazingly knowledgeable growers in all of them. Orchids are their passion and hobby. I have learned so much from many of them and made wonderful friendships as well.
Hope this helps,
Glenn

Speaking of Alabama, there will be a big get together in Boaz on the 23rd of this month. It will be kind of an orchid swap meet and there will be an auction of plants with a percentage of the proceeds going the various societies present. Hope all those in the area can come and attend. Could be some real good bargains on plants and the fellowship should be a blast!
