Smile NEWBIE to Orchidboard :-)

Hey all! I'm new here - been growing orchids for about 8 years, since college :-) I love orchid forums! I'm addicted. Here's some marginally interesting tidbits about me (IMHO):
  • I have 33 orchids
  • I grow mini catts, standard catts, phals, oncids and dends
  • I grow on a SE windowsill in my NYC apt
  • My favorite orchids are mini catts

Thanks for reading!
~Becky

Nice to see another windowsill-growing, NYC apartment-dweller here on the OB. How are you doing with those hi-light Catts? Do you supplement w/ light of the bulb variety?

In any case: Welcome, Becky!

Welcome to OB, Becky! I'm a native NYer, currently living in the BX. Right now I only have Phals. with the exception of a 4-seedling Onc. Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance'. I am in the process of transferring my orchids to s/h.

Hey, thanks all for the nice replies!!

Ok, let's see here: no, at the moment, I have no supplemental lighting - but I may need it just yet!! (and I'm sure you'll hear me yelping and howling when I buy my first light cart!!) My windowsill is *very* southeast, so they get a good 4-5 hours of cool sunlight here in the AM, so most of the catts seem pretty happy. I don't have anything blooming at the moment, but I'll work on posting some pics tomorrow AM!! OH! I almost forgot to mention, I LOVE S&H!! Couldn't live without it!!

Glad to have you on 'board'
If you love mini-catts, have you checked out Austin Creek Orchids. They have some beauties -
Austin Creek Orchids - Cattleya Alliance Hybrids
and this article on mini-catts is great! - Amazing Minicatts
