Default Hello from Florida, also

Hi. Just joined a day ago. Already getting good advice on a problem. I have long wanted to share quarters with orchids. Now in a part of Florida where conditions favor growing and learning. A friend blessed me with a phal started from her plant. It has the company of 3 others — 1 phal, 1 Denod and 1 vanda — rescued from a mega home center where they were ready to die and at reduced prices of $2-5. It's been more than a month and all are showing signs of new growth except one that is feeling a little dry. But he's perking up today after a nice lukewarm dunk. I am looking to learn from this board. Hubby is implying 4 plants is the limit, um, but he doesn't understand orchid love.

Thank you. It's just tough to walk by those poor abused orchid plants at the megastore. The staff is orchid challenged. But at $2-$5 each I'll build a small collection. My goal is to eventually own a couple of blue vandas. I saw some online and they are just gorgeous.

Hello Louez and to OB. So hubby thinks that 4 'chids are enough...Tut, tut. Just humour the man and tell him you were never good at arithmetic....ROFL

Louez welcome to the OB!

I am too a sucker for orchid rescues, glad to know there's another orchid super hero out there.

Well, I'm glad to know you are finding the help you need already.

We like jejeje, so it'd be great to see a couple of your babies!

Hi Louez and Welcome to OB

I started out with a few rescues and then joined my local Orchid Society. With all the chids I have collected in the 1 1/2 years since then it is well over 125. But they just show up somehow. Like they multiplied overnight. My husband has given up Now he gives me ideas of where I can put more He even notices when different ones are in bloom. Seems to like the yellow Vanda that is vacationing here till its' new home is ready. I'm babysitting about 15 and will probably get a few more to add to my collection just before they go home. Can't have any wasted space
Where in Florida do you live??

Aboard louez, its great that you have found the OB an awesome forum to learn from as well as help other members. We all started out the same way, but it does not last long. Started a few years ago, indoor growing, one chid at a time, than multiple purchases I can't count either .. 140+ later. Once we are addicted the reasoning comes-a-flowin'
