I registered on this forum awhile back, but had not posted anything. When I saw the indroduction from Pam in San Antonio, I thought this would be a good time to say hello to her and to everyone else as well.

One thing I like about San Antonio is the long growing season. We still have cannas, gingers, and roses in bloom and I still have 12 of my orchids outside. But for an Epicattleya and a Catt-Blc hybrid, They are all species Cattleyas - walkerianas, dolosas, and a jenmanii.

They're in wooden baskets hanging from branches of a Chinquapin oak tree and a couple of racks positioned so as to have about half a day of sun. They love it out there, especially since we got past the extreme heat of August. They'll be coming in when the nights get below 50 degrees.

I have some Phals also. They spend most of their time inside on window sills. One is an enormous old NOID that we just got. It has had several owners in its life. One of the last ones gave it to my wife a couple of weeks ago. It never bloomed for her, but she kept it very, very healthy. We also have a big P. bellina and a bunch of P. violaceas of various varieties.

I tried for two years to grow Zygopetalums and Pescatoreas, but they just won't live at our house and I've given up on them.

What I like best among the orchids that like me are fragrant species orchids, especially those which are most prone to exhibit color variations within the species.

Well glad you decided to say hi! Welcome to orchidboard!
I love the story of the old NOID. I love orchids with a history!
