Unfortunately, I don't grow these plants but I thought this was very interesting about cyc. species information:

Cycnoches or Cycnoches

Here's some general culture care for these types of plants.

Cycnoches and Catasetum Orchid Care - Carter and Holmes Orchids Culture

The abbreviation for Cycnodes is Cycd. and Cycnoches is cyc.

I hope this helps, keep us posted and WELCOME to the board, we're really glad you're here!

Default Very Cool!

Finally a place where I can get answers.

Thank everyone that welcomed me, I look forward to being a part of your community.

irphrog, where do you find that information on Cycnodes and Cycnoches and their abbreviations? Also, I read that it makes a difference if the first letter in a name or abbreviation of one indicates something. I noticed you used a Capitol for Cycd. and lower case for cyc. Can you explain the significance.

I am very appreciative of your help.

Dorothy, I am guessing from your suggestion that these varieties would be familiar to the Catasetum Stanhope etc. I don't know what that is or how to access it. I would be greatfull for your guidance.

cbradt - the only reason I used a "C" as opposed to a "c" is due to the fact that I'm keyboard impaired...sometimes the finger work and sometimes they don't.

I found the information by searching google. Or is it "G"oogle...

Welcome to OrchidBoard!
Your phals...just don't have water sitting in the middle of the crowns as they will rot...known as crown rot. Always water them in the morning so they have time to dry out by the end of the day.
Your cyc plants. I believe that in the winter time you can even take them out of the pots allowing them to hybernate for a couple of months. Alot of them are fragrant.
Join your local orchid society; you'll meet some others with an obsession just like you.

Keep asking all the question you want here at OrchidBoard; you will find it awsome and a wealth of information.

Happy Growing!
