Default Lurking isn't much fun...

But joining is!
I just found the site today, and as you can see, have wasted no time in joining up. I bought my first orchid probably going on 2 years ago. The fever quickly set in. The orchids were mini phals from a local grocery store. Yup, wonderful place to buy a healthy orchid... But, they were in alright. That combined with my other plant growing experience, allowed them to live. Upon realizing I could keep them alive, I began educating myself and buying more. I still browse the grocery store though, becuse their orchids are a steal and usually just need some TLC. They're usually suffering from over or under watering, but most manage to keep their spikes and bloom beautifully.

But... you just can't get a wide variety of fun, whacky, unusual, uniqu etc, orchids from the grocery store. This led me to ebay and local nurseries.

So enough about how I contracted orchid fever and a tidbit about me. I'm a Mommy to one daughter, wife to one husband (who knew?!?), US Army veteran, student, and overall fun person... at least I like to think so! I look forward to a long stay, and much new knowledge here.

Sure, I've got a few of those! I completely spaced getting pics of several of them when they were in bloom, so now I'll just have to wait patiently.

Here are some pics I do have on my computer right now though.

Aboard...musclegirl, great that you have joined the OB neighborhood. A great fun place to hang out with a learning bonus Most have started with the grocery/box store orchid. Keeps us wanting more when we can keep them from going to orchid heaven, which is ok, that's how we learn.

Your s are great. Take a few minutes and set up your personal gallery of your addiction.

<glad your here>

Hi MuscleGirl, Welcome to OB. Glad you joined. Nice growing and blooms .
My chids don't follow me home....they just appear!!! Somehow they multiply overnight...esp after a Orchid Society meeting or trip to a friend house. Dividing is a good answer too No matter they all fit and after 15 leave here from orchid sitting there will be more room again. My honey even gave me another ideal spot to add another 8' pole for hanging under my overhang that was yesterday afternoon. I'll get it done by Wed. or maybe Tues...naa probably tomorrow Already have the material from Home Depot to do it. He'll come home and PRESTO!!!! more chids

Hey MuscleGirl,
Welcome to the board. Want to start out by saying thank you for your service. Gocery store's discount tables are what got me to. Picked up a sick chid cheap and when that first one rebloomed it was over for me. Enjoy your stay.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm already a busy bee reading up on all the great information that is here. WOW! There is a lot.

My chids are growing in a couple bright windows. I've also got a metal shelving unit which hubby and I attached flourescent lights to. I was using it earlier in the year to start some seeds for the garden, but my intent all along was for it to end up as the orchid home.

I just went a little hog wild and figured this Summer was a good time to multiply the family. I've got 7 NBS on their way from Orchids Alive on ebay, and a couple onesies from others sellers as well. Teehee... luckily hubby is very accomodating. My daughter is also quite excited for them to get here.
