Hello from Australia
Default Hello from Australia

My name is Margaret and I have an addiction, as I'm sure we all do ... its starded with one little den pierardii about 6 years ago and has just grown and grown, so that I now have over 1,500 but who's counting ...

I live in Australia on the east coast and dont haveto worry about heaters and fans ect ... I grow most under 70% sadecloth but some in trees and hanging on the back patio .. it works well for me .. I grow Cattlyas, oncidiums, dens, coelogne, stanhopia and lots of different aust. Well enough of me ..I'll be back .. M can't believe it took me so long to find this place

Margaret

I'm sure you will find Orchid Board great cos I am. I am Sue and I'm an Aussie too - from Brisbane. I just discovered Orchid Board a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how you look after that many orchids while you are working.

Are you having success with flowering under 70% shade cloth? I think I may have 70% as well but I am not sure as I bought my orchid house 2nd hand but I have been a bit disappointed lately with results. I may move some of my cats outside and see how they go.

with everything

Sue

Hi Sue .. nice to meet you .. my shadecloth is most likely not 70% anymore either .. but its seems to be working ok .. my cattleya's are not looking the greatest at the moment, but all the older growers in my club tell me all the rain earlier this year havnt helped to much .. but luckily they are all still flowering, its just the leaves look a bit yuk .. so all is sort of ok. As far as having time to tend them ... hmmm time .. well orchids don't take up a huge amount of time, and I only work 30 hours a week, finishing at 2.30 each day ... so I have a few free hours a day and the dogs would rather chase lizards in the green house more than walk so we are all happy. I've been to a few orchid shows at Logan there are some great growers around up there .. hope to talk more to you later .
Margaret
