Talking my first time, glad to be here!

Hi everyone. I am brand new to caring for orchids. I bought my first one about 2 months ago but almost killed it. So I went out today and bought some orchid mix and some fertilizer. Also got me a new orchid plant. I am now dedicating myself to taking good care of them and hopefully reviving my first one. Hopefully I did the right things to revive, I cut off all the dead roots (which almost went all the way up to the plant ) then I repotted it in the new mix, added a bit of fertilizer to the water, cut the stem about half way down, cleaned off the leaves top and bottom. Hope it works! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anyways I'm glad to be part of your forums. I've been looking at all the pics and they are absolutely beautiful.

Yup thanks to you, Marty, I made it. Actually I found out what the problem was, the emails were going to my junk mail folder. Happens every time and I still don't learn.

Welcome aboard. What kind of orchids do you have? If you could post pictures, we love seeing them!
It sounds like you have a good handle on caring for them already. Orchids are not difficult to grow. They are just a little different from regular type houseplants.
Ask away if you have any questions.

I have Phail orcids. Both of them. They're supposed to be the easiest to care for but for someone who knows nothing about caring for them, it's quite difficult. Don't know if she's doing great but will soon after a few months or so.

To answer Kiki's question, The pic of my "CHIID: is my avatar, it's just beautiful.

My only question is was I right for trimming down the stem halfway to try and revive my plant? Ok and one more question, how long will it take for the plant to make flowers after trimming the stem?

Like I said before, I am totally dedicated to making sure these plants survive and hopefully I can revive my first plant and make many beauftiul flowers as you all do.

Hi Again!
Let's see if I can help you.
Trimming down the stem is a good thing to do. It is recommended to trim it down to just above the second node. Then there is a chance of new growth coming from about that node. If the stem has browned or turned color from the fresh green that they are, I would trim it down to the very bottom. It's spent.
When it reblooms is a crap shoot, of sorts. I find (and this is only my observation) that if the phal has bloomed for a long time with many blooms, it needs to rest a while and you may not see more blooms for up to a year. I cut the stem down to where the leaves are and let it rest. It could be close to a year before it pops another spike.
If it's not done blooming yet, you will see new growth starting at or around that 2nd node within a short period of time. Sometimes it seems as though they never want to stop blooming.
So having said all that, you did a fine job. Keep an eye on your leaves and make sure they are not dark dark (needs more light) and not light light (getting too much light) but a nice medium green. Make sure they aren't overwatered, but soak the roots good, then let dry out to almost dry....should be quite a few days. Fertilize with orchid food every other watering.
They truly aren't that hard, and they are so rewarding when they do bloom. You will be fine! There is someone here to help, always.

Thanks Kiki for all the info. I'm not too sure about my first plant, I think I just may have killed it but I have high hopes for her. I took her out today and inspected the roots again, had to clip most of them cuz they were pretty rotted, like real bad. It separated into two halves but both have tiny little nubs for roots so there is still hope. The stem still has some juice in it and is still green, but a few of the leaves are starting to turn a purplish color. I will NOT give up. With all the info I have read and a lot of TLC I think I just might be able to save her.
