Default And so it begins..

Hello all. I have finally decided to stop lurking and join in. Always wanted to grow orchids since I went to the orchid show in NYC when it was still at the trade centers. I was totally blown away. I didn't have the room at the time, but now I do so I am going to take a crack at it.

I also grow bonsai which is another passion of mine and I can see orchids becoming a major addiction.

I am lucky enough to live near two nurseries, Venamy in Brewster NY(20 minutes) and J & L in CT(about an hour away). I am about an hour north of NYC for people in the area.

I'm sure I will have many questions as I go. Glad to be a part of this hobby and addiction.

Mel

Hi Mel, Welcome to OB! Lurking around were you? Come out come out whereever you are!!! Which orchids blew your mind the most at the show? Do you know where you want to start? I remember my very first orchid. I remember how exciting but scary it was. Yet they survive despite us. I'm up in the 90's now (orchids, not age) and it's still exciting!

It was a long time ago. i always appreciated them. What blew me away was the vendor area it had to be a city block long. The miniatures that were mounted got my attention the most. I'll be looking for a fish tank at a flea market this weekend. I'm looking to grow some warm and intermidate plueros.
