Just a brief intro before I indundate you all with newbie questions....
I live in beautiful Homer, Alaska...please Google it up if you are curious. My best description would be to picture Vermont on the ocean (with longer winters). A unique combination of horses and hay fields by the ocean. We even have wild pheasants...along side moose.
I have a degree in boilogy and have always kept plants...especially African violets. I just have a few orchids by a south facing window. Moved into this new house w/o central heating. We have a single oil heater and my oncidiums seem to love the cool nights, so I am trying cattleyas. So far, so good. I have to break myself of the terrestrial habit of wanting to put everything in soil. I switched all catts' over to S/H a few months ago and they are growing like crazy...throwing roots into the medium like no tomorrow.
