Hiya,

I have recently relocated to Melbourne, Australia from New Zealand and would like to make friends and connect through the love of orchids.

I have been growing orchids for over 10 years but still consider myself a beginner

Look forward to hearing form you

Hi. I subscribe to "Hello Plant Lovers'' on YouTube. Fellas name is Matthew and he's a hobbyist in Melbourne. Very enjoyable to watch. Check him out.

Hi, I also stumbled across Matthew's channel when trying to learn about Dendrobium kingianum and Sarcochilus orchids last year. As DeaC said, he is entertaining, and in some videos I watched, has referred to and shown other people in the area that also grow orchids.

Btw, I have been enjoying learning to try to grow these two orchids native to your country.

Welcome, there are some Aussie members on the forum.

I also watch Matthew's channel, lots of info delivered in a very engaging way.

My advice would be to join a local orchid club. I'm lucky to have a club that meets in my home town in South Australia.
We get great speakers who often bring their surplus plants with them sell. Access to local growers is a benefit too.

If you look at oscov.asn.au there is a list of meeting times and places for clubs all over metro Melbourne.
Hopefully you can find one close enough for you.

When you get settled we would love to see your growing set up and some of your plants.

I hope the kinigianum is giving you many weeks of fragrant enjoyment. A lot of hybridization goes on here with our native Dendrobiums. 😁

They were all rescue attempts when I picked them up last summer so only 3 of them bloomed. Lucky to get any at all, but I already see the beginnings on more of what could be blooms again next spring. Will see!

Have a wonderful time getting settled in, making new friends, and beautifying your home with lovely new plants!
